Two weeks ago, Canada’s Conservatives called upon the government asking what they were going to do to help students and new graduates. Though we did not receive a formal reply, it appears that the government gave our critique some thought.
Yesterday, the Liberal government proposed the “Canada Emergency Student Benefit” (CESB) that would provide support to students and new grads who are ineligible for the Canada Emergency Response Benefit or EI, or unable to work due to COVID-19.
The CESB would provide $1,250 per month for eligible students or $1,750 per month for eligible students with dependents or disabilities.
This benefit would be available from May to August 2020. More details will be made available soon.
