During his 2025 campaign, Mark Carney promised to protect Canada’s economy from U.S. tariffs. A year later, nothing has changed. Have the ongoing tariffs and trade issues affected your business and/or family? Let me know here!

Kusie Update – October 2025

October 21, 2025

Message to Constituents:

Dear Constituents of Calgary Midnapore,

As this is my first e-newsletter since the Federal Election was called, I’d like to thank all those who participated in the democratic process and for the trust you have placed in me to represent you once again in Ottawa. Whether I earned your vote or not, I am committed to making the lives of constituents in Calgary Midnapore better.

Across the country, over eight million Canadians voted for change – and for hope. My Conservative colleagues and I will take every opportunity to work with the government to deliver this change and will continue to do our job as His Majesty’s Loyal Opposition to oppose and hold this government to account. My team’s focus this session will be on finding solutions to the multiple crises that the Liberal government has created – whether it be cost of living,  job loss, crime, or immigration. Conservatives will continue to oppose what is wrong, expose what is hidden, and propose solutions in the national interest.

Our Conservative team has already brought forward several common sense motions and Bills this session, and later in this publication I have outlined some of the many justice-related issues we currently have on the list to be considered.

Some of the other proposed legislation sponsored by Conservatives may be of interest to you also, such as:

  • Stop Taxing Groceries” – Conservative motion to scrap the four hidden Liberal grocery taxes that continue to drive up the price at the till.
  • Private Member’s Bill C-230 – would create a public registry of corporations whose tax debts of $1,000,000 or more owed to the Government were waived, written off or forgiven. This will improve transparency and increase accountability for the decisions to no longer pursue tax debts owing.
  • Private Member’s Bill C-224, An Act to amend the Food and Drugs Act (Natural Health Products) – that would ensure that Canadians can continue to access the protein powders, vitamins, probiotics and supplements that they depend on every day, while protecting the competitiveness of Canadian businesses .
  • Conservative Youth Jobs PlanIn August, CIBC reported that the current “youth unemployment rate is at levels typically only seen during recessions”. Conservatives have a real plan to solve this crisis with the Youth Jobs Plan that will: Unleash the Economy, Fix Immigration, Fix Training, and Build Homes Where the Jobs Are. Watch the Shadow Minister for Employment’s announcement here.

The Government has also tabled several pieces of legislation since Parliament resumed and some of them have many constituents very concerned about their potential impact on Canadians’ right to privacy. Here are a few major pieces of Liberal legislation that we are currently debating in the House of Commons. Many of you have expressed deep concern over these Bills, with C-8 in particular keeping you up at night. I feel the same. My thoughts on this Bill are available here.

  • Bill C-2 “Strong Borders Act”
  • Bill C-3 “An Act to Amend the Citizenship Act”
  • Bill C-8 “An Act respecting cyber security, amending the Telecommunications Act and making consequential amendments to other Acts” (Read more here)
  • Bill C-9 “Combatting Hate Act”

I encourage you to explore the LegisInfo website to learn more about each Bill and its status.

Speaking of scary stuff, the Liberal budget is finally set to be released on November 4th and several experts have predicted a potentially huge increase to our debt. Conservatives have made it clear that we expect the Liberal government to present a responsible budget that will cut taxes and make life more affordable for Canadians. As the Shadow Minister for the Treasury Board, it is my job to ensure the best use of taxpayer dollars and you can bet I will be analyzing this long awaited Budget closely! Keep an eye on my social media for the latest.

I hope you all enjoy a safe, fun, and Happy Halloween! I’ve seen some fantastic decorations while driving across the riding. If you have a photo of your spooky decor, I would love to share it on my social media! Please email photos to: stephanie.kusie.c1@parl.gc.ca

Thank you for keeping up to date on my work and on the issues that affect all Canadians.

Sincerely,

Stephanie

Latest Survey Results:

Over the summer, Stephanie asked constituents if the Liberals’ EV mandate should be scrapped. The results were overwhelmingly ‘yes’. As a result of pressure from the Opposition and Canadians at large, the Liberals decided to ‘temporarily pause’ their plans.

Raquel Dancho, Shadow Minister for Industry, issued the following statement on Prime Minister Mark Carney’s announcement temporarily pausing the electric vehicle (EV) mandate and introducing a new “Buy Canadian” policy:

“After spending years advocating for the policy, Mark Carney was finally forced to admit his electric vehicle mandate is unworkable. But instead of scrapping it altogether, he has only delayed the 2026 target and launched yet another bureaucratic review.

“The Liberal EV mandate will force Canadian automakers to buy credits from foreign companies that don’t build a single car here. This tax is forecasted to siphon billions from our auto industry and workers straight into the pockets of automakers that don’t even build their cars in Canada, paid for by Canadian taxpayers. This is the opposite of Buy Canadian.

“This puts Tesla – an American company in which Mark Carney holds shares – in a position to make billions at the expense of Canadian workers and businesses. According to their financial disclosures, Tesla already made almost $1.5 billion in the first two quarters of 2025 from global EV credits alone.

“Workers whose jobs are at risk and families who can’t afford higher costs don’t need more stalling. They need this reckless mandate repealed once and for all.

“At the same time, the Prime Minister unveiled a ‘Buy Canadian’ procurement policy. Conservatives have long called on Ottawa to prioritize Canadian workers, businesses and supply chains. While the tone is laudable, years of Liberal failure have shown this government needs to be held accountable for real outcomes – not just praised for their promises. We have already seen the government doubling down on loaning BC Ferries $1 billion to buy Chinese ships while Canadian shipyards and steelworkers clamour for work.

“The EV mandate is just one of many Liberal laws that are choking growth, and it must go. Our Canadian Sovereignty Act puts forward a bold, constructive alternative that will defend Canadian jobs, unlock rapid resource development and restore our independence.

“The Conservative plan for real economic strength:

  1. Scrap the EV mandate for good. End policies that funnel Canadian dollars to foreign firms and protect Canadian jobs, investment and consumer choice.
  2. Deliver a true ‘Buy Canadian’ strategy by ensuring taxpayer dollars help Canadian industries build here at home.
  3. Pass the Canadian Sovereignty Act that will repeal destructive Liberal laws, reward Canadian builders and defend our economic independence.

“Canadians deserve results. Conservatives will keep fighting for affordability, economic sovereignty and a strong, competitive economy proudly built right here in Canada.”

This Month’s Survey Question:

As a result of long hold times, dropped calls, and inaccurate information being provided by Agents, the Auditor General has given the CRA a failing grade.

Have you been disappointed with the service you’ve received from the CRA in the past year? Let Stephanie know here!
