During his 2025 campaign, Mark Carney promised to protect Canada’s economy from U.S. tariffs. A year later, nothing has changed. Have the ongoing tariffs and trade issues affected your business and/or family? Let me know here!

Kusie Update – May 2026

May 1, 2026

Message to Constituents

Dear Constituents of Calgary Midnapore,

Knock on wood — it looks like winter may finally be over. I’m hearing robins singing, seeing buds on trees and little ladbybugs emerging. I’m hopeful the warmer temperatures will lift our spirits as that (crazy) wind and snow last weekend tried our patience! If so, it will be just in time for Mother’s Day — and there’s no one more deserving of a warm, calm day than the moms of Calgary Midnapore. I hope you are able to honour your mother or other special moms in your life next weekend. I am looking forward to spending some quality time with my family – including my mother Angie – especially after a busy couple weeks of travel!

After celebrating Easter (as MP Easter Bunny) and meeting with constituents in the riding, I flew to Washington, DC for meetings with the IMF and World Bank – which helped assure me that common-sense conservative policies and ideas are breaking through on the world stage. A few weeks later, I had the privilege of attending the PACE Conference (Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe) in Strasbourg, France, to update European officials on the passage of Bill C-9 in Canada; share details about the impact that Canada’s ‘Sergei Magnitsky Law’ has had by imposing sanctions on over 70 foreign nationals from countries like Venezuela, Iran, and Russia; discuss our country’s experience with freezing and seizing criminal assets and our readiness to work with Europe to combat transnational criminal activity. After a busy conference, I returned to Ottawa for the Parliamentary sitting, which this week included the Liberals’ Spring Economic Update.

With their Update, the Liberals have shown that they have no intention of changing their high-spending ways and that just like under Justin Trudeau, they will continue to gamble with the future prosperity of Canadians by racking up the taxpayer’s credit card. The cost of servicing Canada’s debt will rise to an unprecedented $59 billion this year. In 2026, Canadians will pay more in debt interest than the federal government spends on health care and more than it collects from the GST! Mark Carney (supposedly an esteemed banker) should know just how dangerous this is. Or maybe he does, and simply doesn’t care…? Either way, I am deeply disturbed by his recklessness and will continue to advocate for fiscal prudency. It is wrong to strap Canadians with such a heavy tax burden and then claim it’s for their own good.

The feeling this ignites inside me reminds me exactly why I’m here. Amidst all of the madness and floor crossings I reaffirmed my commitment to the Calgarians who placed their trust in me – and as I am about to celebrate the 9th anniversary of becoming an MP, I am as passionate as ever about protecting the good, hardworking people of Calgary Midnapore who deserve better than this kind of abuse from their federal government. Rest assured that I am here for you and will never stop fighting for you.

Also know that there are things you can do to help – like signing my two e-petitions calling for greater transparency and accountability, and weighing in on my monthly surveys (May’s survey is about the impact of the US tariffs on your home and/or business).

Please also take special note of the upcoming free info session for anyone preparing for retirement.

There are two months of Parliament left before MPs recess for the summer and it will be action packed. Come along for the ride by following me on social media.

All my very best to you today and always.

Sincerely,

Stephanie
