Prices in Canada continue to go up under Mark Carney’s government, and many of them are automatic, meaning that Parliament does not approve them (cost of postage, alcohol, passports etc.) Does this increasing reliance on ‘escalator’ taxes concern you? Let me know here!

Kusie Update – April 2026

April 2, 2026

Message to Constituents

Despite the snow we just received, Spring, a beautiful season of renewal, is upon us. This month, families across the riding will celebrate Easter, a significant event in the Christian calendar. I wish one and all a meaningful and joyful weekend with loved ones. Thank you to the Legacy, Chaparral, Acadia, and Willow Ridge Community Associations for bringing neighbours together (especially wee ones) together for Easter egg hunts – I look forward to contributing some sweet treats and catching up with those in attendance.

Thank you to Marshall and Gord at the Willow Ridge Community Association for hosting another fantastic Civic Affairs Open House last weekend. My team and I enjoyed engaging with constituents. Thank you to everyone who entered my contest to win a “Canadian Pride” door prize. The lucky winner will be notified by email.

As for my work in Ottawa, I remain focused on advocating for a lower cost-of-living, a more judicious use of Canadians’ hard-earned tax dollars, and greater transparency. As you will read in this newsletter, I am concerned about the Liberal government’s proposed changes to the Access to Information Act and their worrisome attitude and behaviour surrounding the Parliamentary Budget Officer. The Liberals continue to duck accountability and keep taxpayers in the dark. Rest assured, as Shadow Minister for the Treasury Board, I make it my business to shine a light on how every penny from the public purse is spent.

I hear from community members daily about how their cost of living just keeps climbing. At every turn, life is more expensive. From groceries to gas – to more hidden increases (like with alcohol and postage) it all just keeps going up! (Please participate in my monthly survey on this topic). Not only this, we continue to be gaslit by the Prime Minister who tells Canadians everything is wonderful. Just like Trudeau, he is deeply disconnected from reality and disingenuous about the true state of affairs in Canada. Life is not getting better as he promised it would. I will continue to hold him accountable – we all should.

I want to express how deeply disappointed I am by the passage of Bill C-9 (read on for more). I am proud, however, of how firm citizens of this riding stood against it. I now encourage you to write to Senators and urge them to vote against it in the Red Chamber.

I hope you know you can count on me to stand up for Alberta. Alongside my Conservative colleagues, I am pushing Mr. Carney to get pipelines built and show Alberta the respect it deserves in Confederation. This province fuels the nation and failing to listen to Albertans will not end well for anyone.

It’s hard to stay positive in this political climate, but I am reminded that Easter is a message of hope, and I hold onto that.

I remain grateful for the honour of representing you and for the supportive messages I have received over the past few weeks.. Your kind words mean more to me than you could ever know.

God bless Calgary Midnapore and God bless Canada.

All my very best,

Stephanie
