Do you support Conservative Bill C-262 which would cut interprovincial trade barriers and amend federal rules to allow Canada Post to pick up and deliver beer, wine and spirits directly to Canadians across provincial borders? Let me know here!

Another Liberal Illusion

June 1, 2026

At a campaign stop in Calgary in April 2025, Mark Carney said, “We can’t build Canada into an energy superpower if we can’t actually get the shovels into the ground. To put it plainly, we need to get going.”

One year later, and we are still waiting.

Last summer, Conservatives worked with the Liberals to pass Bill C-5 which gave the government the ability to fast-track infrastructure projects in the national interest. However to date, no pipeline project in Alberta has been prioritized – and no ground has been broken.

Premier Smith has been working in a strong spirit of cooperation with the Prime Minister, accepting a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) that committed to increase Alberta’s oil and gas production with a new West Coast bitumen pipeline, while meeting climate goals.

Alberta has done everything it’s been asked – and then some – in order to get a pipeline built. But still, we wait.

In the meantime, Mark Carney could scrap two pieces of legislation that continue to chase away investment in Canada’s energy sector: Bills C-69 and C-48. The fact that he has not done so already shows his lack of true intent.

Canada has so many opportunities to generate wealth, create jobs, and give the world what it wants and needs – energy. Conservatives have been calling on the government for years now to export our energy to European partners (like Germany and Ukraine) in order to help eliminate their reliance on Russian oil. But the Liberals dug their ideological heels in the ground, steadfast in their goal to cripple the Canadian energy industry. Trudeau once claimed that there was “no business case” for getting Canadian LNG to Europe. Now, they have flipflopped on that ridiculous statement but rather than exporting our LNG through the fastest, most direct route, (from Atlantic Canada to Europe), they are actually considering shipping it from British Columbia to Germany. Not only will this take five times longer, but will require either a seasonal Arctic passage or a long detour through the Panama Canal through to the U.S. Gulf where American exporters already start. Additionally, the Liberals acknowledge this couldn’t even be in place till sometime in 2030’s. In no way is that working at “unprecedented speeds”. It is simply a Liberal illusion – yet another idea they put in the window and never deliver on.

Conservatives, on the other hand, will continue to fight for pipelines to get approved, LNG export terminals to get built, and Liberal anti-development laws to get repealed so Canada can sell our clean energy to our allies. Just this week, Stephanie’s colleague MP David McKenzie introduced his Private Member’s Bill C-264 which calls on the government to repeal its harmful Oil Tanker Moratorium Act. You can follow the progress of the Bill here.
